Andy

An entrepreneur at the forefront of marketing, branding, positioning and communicating “The Next Big Thing,” Andy Cunningham has played a key role in the launch of a number of new categories including video games; personal computers; desktop publishing; digital imaging; RISC microprocessors; software as a service; very light jets; and clean tech investing. She is an expert in creating and executing marketing, branding and communication strategies that accelerate growth, increase shareholder value and advance corporate reputation. Her first book, Get to Aha!: Discover Your Positioning DNA and Dominate Your Competition, was published by McGraw-Hill Education in October 2017 and became an Amazon best seller in 2019.

Andy came to Silicon Valley in 1983 to work for Regis McKenna and help Steve Jobs launch the Macintosh. When Steve left Apple to form NeXT and acquire Pixar, he chose Andy’s public relations agency, Cunningham Communication, to represent him. She continued to work with Steve for several years and has developed marketing, branding and communication strategies for game-changing technologies and companies ever since.

Andy is the founder and president of Cunningham Collective, a marketing, brand and communication strategy firm dedicated to bringing innovation to market. The 7-year old firm has worked with many companies in various markets including aviation, artificial intelligence, education, information technology, big data, cloud, finance, healthcare, media/publishing, mobile apps, search, security, semiconductors, software as a service, telecommunications, video games, and virtual reality. Andy is also the host of the popular podcast Marketing Over Ice (http://www.moi.fm/).

Andy serves on the following corporate boards: AirPR (PR analytics); Motiv Power Systems (electric vehicles); Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc. (bicycles and related gear); and Woodward Communications, Inc. (media and marketing services). She also serves as a trustee of The Aspen Institute (since 2000) and Menlo College (since 2014). Andy serves on the following not-for-profit advisory boards: UNICEF; Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications; Quinnipiac University School of Communications; and ZERO1: The Art & Technology Network, an organization she founded in 2000 with the mission to shape the future at the intersection of art and technology. She also serves on the Freeman Design Council, a “special forces” unit of The Freeman Company. In addition Andy serves on the advisory boards of the following companies: MixR, Traackr, SVEN, Virta Health. Past board positions include RhythmOne (ad-tech) and Finelite (lighting design). She also served on the not-for-profit boards of YPO, CEO, the Peninsula Open Space Trust and the Computer History Museum. Andy is an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow, holds memberships in WPO, CEO, TED and Women Corporate Directors and teaches a marketing class at Menlo College.

Andy graduated from Northwestern University and lives in Sausalito, California with her husband Rand Siegfried.

Henry Hwong

Henry has over 25 years of experience in technology and consulting for venture-backed startups and public companies. Henry brings to Cunningham Collective a product-oriented mindset, having driven inbound and outbound product marketing in several organizations. While at Cunningham Collective, Henry has led a number of brand strategy and marketing engagements for clients in consumer technology, enterprise solutions, AR/VR, video, food tech, eCommerce, and semiconductors. He also served as interim marketing leadership for a consumer streaming video company and an enterprise unified communications company as a part of a Collective engagement.

Prior to joining the firm, he led product marketing at Deem (Rearden Commerce), a travel and eCommerce marketplace company based in San Francisco, California. At Deem, Henry built the product marketing and demand generation teams, as well as implemented core product launch and pricing processes. Henry also led product management for Ariba’s cloud and on-premise platforms, where he also drove release readiness and pricing. In addition, he was responsible for oversight and change management of Ariba’s data and privacy policies. Before Ariba, he was the vice president of marketing at Provade, a contingent workforce management SaaS platform. He also held product management roles at Elance and PeopleSoft, and managed strategic alliances at Moai Technologies.

Henry began his career in consulting with BSG. He later joined A.T. Kearney, where he advised global high-tech and automotive clients on corporate strategy, market entry and product planning.
Henry has a BS in electrical engineering from Rice University, an MS in computer engineering from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Taylor Phillips

Taylor Phillips is Cunningham Collective's Office Manager. In her role, she is responsible for managing office operations and procedures, assigning and monitoring clerical functions, assisting with employee travel arrangements, organizing calendars and scheduling meetings, and offering support where needed to HR, marketing and finance departments.

Taylor has been working in public relations and communications within the technology industry for 4 years. Taylor graduated from California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo, where she majored in Journalism and minored in Media, Arts and Technology. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, boating, or anything outdoors.

Caitlin Sorensen

Caitlin is an Analyst at Cunningham Collective. Her experience in the marketing realm began while she served as a Marketing Manager for Mathnasium of Redwood City, a math-only learning center. There she developed skills in social media management, community outreach and content creation.

Caitlin graduated from Menlo College in May of 2019. She is a native of Long Beach, CA, but a collegiate soccer scholarship brought her to the Bay Area. At Menlo, she was involved in a variety of organizations such as Student Government, Athletics, and multiple Advisory Committees. Caitlin was enrolled in the Marketing Class, "Marketing Menlo" led by Andy Cunningham, where she served as the Project Manager for the campaign the class designed. In this role, Caitlin assumed a leadership position and oversaw the development of a campaign the university implemented in 2019.

Robert Eppley

Robert Eppley graduated from Swarthmore College with dual B.A. in Biology and Political Science. When he was 18 he created his own automotive blog, called thefourspeed, where he publishes his unfiltered automotive opinions and highly filtered photography in his limited spare time. While in college, Robert ran the 60M, 110M, and 400M hurdles for Swarthmore’s Varsity Track & Field team, where he holds the schools 60M hurdle record. Prior to Cunningham Collective, Robert discovered and grew his love for the technology industry as a member of a finalist team in his school’s business model creation competition, a website manager for Swarthmore’s Center for Innovation and Leadership, and a fellow with the True Venture Entrepreneurship Corps.

Richard Ervais

Richard brings 33 years of operations and administrative experience to Cunningham Collective as executive assistant to our president, Andy Cunningham. Richard has worked for major international law firms such as Sidley Austin LLP, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, New York and Los Angeles as an assistant, paralegal and manager.

Prior to joining Andy in 2011, Richard assisted in the establishment and management of two law offices in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and before that an office in Munich for a New York-based law firm. Richard has a BA in history from Temple University and a certificate in English Common Law from the London School of Economics. When not working, Richard likes to travel the world running marathons.

Marilyn Otterson

Marilyn, an independent consultant, joined Cunningham Collective’s team in December, 2018 as Accounting Manager, providing assistance to the CFO relating to financial & HR matters. She holds a degree in Finance from Florida State University and moved to the Bay Area in 1988 after working for 10 years in the oil & gas industry in Florida, Texas & Oklahoma. In 1988, she started a bookkeeping business, & continues to maintain small businesses & individuals as clients. In her free time, Marilyn enjoys hiking, boating and, given any opportunity, exploring the world.
